Earthing

Isolated neutral is one of the methods in which three-phase system can be operated in such a way that the neutral is isolated from earth. Capacitive coupling is utilized here. For earthing we can employ different methods like solid earthing, resistance earthing, reactance earthing, Peterson coil and voltage transformer earthing. In an earthed neutral system, arcing ground can be easily avoided by the usage of proper protective gears. If the access to the existing neutral is not possible, or if the system is connected in delta, artificial neutral can be created by using an earthed transformer. Earthed transformer is a core type of transformer having three limbs built up in the same manner as that of transformer. Here all the three limbs have two equally spaced windings.
