Hand tools of an electronics engineer

The major companies involved in hand tools manufacturing are Gedore, Taparia, Unique and Vishwa. Screw drivers are available in various sizes and lengths. The size of the screw drivers is usually given by the diameter and length of the blade. Philips head screw drivers have cross-slot screw heads. Other varieties in this group are Allen screw drivers, clutch-head screw drivers and split-blade holding screw drivers. Screws which are used with hand tools exist in different forms. Standard metal screw, self-tapping screw, drive-type metal screw, sheet metal screw, wood screw, socket screw and set screw are the main types of screws. To clip wires and wire leads from electronic components, we usually use cutters. Cutters are also used to strip insulation from small hook-up wires. Round-nose cutters, sharp-nose cutters, long nose pliers etc. are some commonly used cutters. Spin wrenches or nut drives are used for fixing, assembling and dismantling TV antennas. Tweezers are used to pick up components. An electrician’s knife is built securely for scraping insulation from large wires. Shears are cutters where shearing action is used. For removing and polishing metals and wood, hand files are used. The different varieties exist in files. They are flat, half-round, round and triangular files. Solder which is an alloy of tin and lead is used for soldering. A soldering iron is used for soldering. Other tools used by an electronics engineer are terminal lugs, strips, multimeters and oscilloscopes.
